Home Scavenger Hunt - Activity Instructions

Finding treasure is fun and easy with this house scavenger hunt! This activity perfectly follows on from House Map and lets you explore a whole new world within your own house.

Part A: Set Up (For Parents/Caregivers)

Step 1.

Preparation can be done the night before, after the child has gone to sleep. Decide on three or four places around the house to hide a prize and mark them with big stars on the house map with a highlighter. For example, you might choose to hide things in the fridge, behind the TV, in the laundry, in their bedroom.

Step 2.

Create clue cards for each place. Write on a small piece of paper a clue that will lead them to the place where you will hide a present. For example, “I keep things cold” = fridge; “I give entertainment” = TV; “wash things in here” = laundry, etc.

Step 3.

You will hide the clue cards with the prizes (except for the first clue card which you will keep and will help start the game with your kid/s). That means there will be one prize without a clue card (the last one). Try to think through the flow of the game; where do you want them to start and end up?

Step 4.

Hide the prizes and the clue cards in the places indicated.

Part B: The Hunt!

Step 1.

Give the map and the clue card to your kid/s. If needed, read the clue to them and ask them which star they think it could be at.

Step 2.

Let them search the area for the prize and when they have found it, read the next clue card and repeat until they have completed the hunt.
