Leaf Man's Adventure - Activity Instructions

Stories can help us open our imagination. In this activity, you will listen to a story and then create a new friend using leaves. Take your new friend on an adventure and think about what they have to say about the importance of trees.

Step 1.

Find a comfy place to listen to the story, The Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert. You can hear the story here if you don’t have the book.

Step 2.

Leaves come from trees. Why are trees important to humans? Why are they important to animals? Ask someone to help you write your answers around this tree. There is an example for you.

Step 3.

Go for a walk and find lots of leaves. Take them with you back to your comfy spot.

Step 4.

Make your own leaf man! Before you use your glue to stick him to some cardboard, make sure you are happy with the layout of your leaves.

Step 5.

Take your leaf man on an adventure! As you adventure, talk about what your leaf man might see that shows how important trees are in the environment. Use your tree picture to remind you.
