Mystery Monster Drawing - Activity Instructions

It’s time to get creative and have fun with your family! Pull out your pencils and create a hilarious monster by drawing only half each. See who can make the most ridiculous creature.

Step 1.

You can do this with two people, or as many family and friends as you like.

Step 2.

Everyone folds a piece of white paper in half.

Step 3.

Draw two small lines in greylead so they go over the fold onto both halves of the paper, like this.

Step 4.

One the top half of the paper, everyone draws the top of a monster. This means the head, arms, chest. The belly button should be just where the paper folds. Make sure the body joins up to the two lines. Do not show your drawing to anyone else!

Step 5.

Turn your picture over and swap your drawing with someone else. Remember, don’t look at what they’ve drawn!

Step 6.

Now draw the bottom half of a monster. This means the legs (if they have some) and maybe a tail. Make sure the hips join up to the two lines, otherwise the two halves of the monster won’t match.

Step 7.

Unfold the paper. Look at the hilarious mismatch of monster parts!

Step 8.

Colour in your monster.

To complete this activity with friends and family online, agree on who will draw the top or bottom half then send your half to each other. Open the images and drag them until they fit each other. Laugh away! You could even do it via video call or share your screen.

Taking It Further

It is possible to do this activity by doing two sides of a face, although this is much harder. Drawn an oval, fold the paper in half vertically, and draw lines indicating where the mouth and nose should meet up.
