The Transport Box - Activity Instructions

Being stuck inside because of the coronavirus or bad weather doesn’t mean that you can’t go anywhere. Introducing the transport box! Do you want a spaceship to take you to outer space? A car to take you to the beach? A train to take you to the countryside? A tram to take you around the city? A plane to take you to a beach destination? It’s all possible with a little help from your imagination.

Safety advice: Scissors and knives are sharp and pointy and are very dangerous. Parents/caregivers should stay close and help with these objects.

Part A: The Construction

Step 1.

A box is just a box right now but cutting a big hole in the side using scissors or a knife will turn your box into a spaceship, a rocket, a train or a bus. Keep the cutout cardboard to use for further play (think shield, door or portal to a new world).

Part B: Now Imagine

Step 1.

Sit inside the box and think about where you would like to go. How would you like to get there? Make the noises of the transport you have chosen. For example, if it is a train, make ‘choo choo’ sounds.

Step 2.

When you arrive at your ‘destination’ climb out of the box and explore your new location. Interact with the space. If you have taken a train to the beach, talk about how big the waves are or how windy it is. Get back into the box and think, ‘where would I like to go next?’ Maybe this time, you would like to take your favourite toy on your adventure.
