Lesson Summary
Students will explore how wind turbines convert moving air into electrical energy and how this energy is transferred through a system. They will investigate how wind energy is used in Australia, including how turbine design and location affect energy production and the roles people play in developing these systems. To apply their learning, students will design, test and improve a model wind turbine (pinwheel), identifying how changes impact its performance. |
Learning intentions
Students will:
- understand how wind turbines convert moving air into electrical energy and how this energy is transferred through a system
- explore how wind energy systems are designed and used in Australia, including the roles people play in developing and managing them.
Success criteria
Students will:
- outline how wind turbines generate electricity and identify factors that affect how much energy they produce
- design, test and improve a simple wind turbine model, and describe how their design changes impact performance.
