Lesson Summary
Students will explore how scientific knowledge is used to design microgrids that provide reliable and affordable energy in remote First Nations communities. They will analyse case studies and use the learnings from their analysis to create a storyboard that communicates the problem, community response and role of scientific knowledge for one of these projects.
Learning intentions
Students will:
- explore how the Marlinja community applied science knowledge and collaboration skills to design a safe, reliable microgrid
- understand how scientific and cultural knowledge work together in real-world problem solving
- communicate their findings clearly through visual and oral formats.
Success criteria
Students can:
- retell the Marlinja story using accurate scientific and social elements
- identify the scientific processes involved in building a microgrid
- create a clear storyboard or model explaining the relationship between energy science and community decision-making.
