Teaching Clean Energy Through First Nations Perspectives

  • Teaching Clean Energy Through First Nations Perspectives

First Nations communities are leading Australia’s clean energy transition, connecting cultural knowledge, scientific inquiry, and care for Country. Bring this expertise into the classroom with our resources created in collaboration with the First Nations Clean Energy Network.

Teach curriculum-aligned Science and HASS lessons for Years 5 - 8 that investigate energy access and equity, explore how land and sea knowledge informs renewable energy design, and examine real-world clean energy case studies.

Teach real-world clean energy solutions

Bring First Nations perspectives into your Science and HASS lessons through existing clean energy contexts. Teach how clean energy solutions are generated and accessed, using real-world examples such as the Marlinja solar microgrid and housing retrofits in remote communities.

They’ll build critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they evaluate clean energy options and justify solutions for a fairer and more sustainable future.

Student learning outcomes

These lessons support students to:
⚡ Investigate how clean energy is produced and distributed
🌏 Examine energy access and equity in different communities
🌿 See how First Nations knowledge informs renewables development
🔋 Explore real-world solutions such as solar microgrids
🏡 Understand how clean energy solutions support health, wellbeing, and staying on Country
🧠 Analyse energy challenges and justify solutions
💡 Identify clean energy careers, skills, and pathways.

First Nations Clean Energy Network are a group of First Nations people, community organisations, land councils, unions, academics, industry groups, technical and legal advisors, renewables companies, and other experts, working in partnership to ensure that First Nations communities share in the benefits of the clean energy transition.

FRRR supports remote, rural, and regional communities across Australia to be vibrant, resilient, and sustainable. They work alongside communities to drive locally led solutions, helping them navigate disruption and unlock opportunity.
