Investigating Energy in First Nations Communities

Explore how clean energy is transforming communities in this Year 5 and 6 Science unit. Developed in collaboration with the First Nations Clean Energy Network, this unit invites students to examine how clean, reliable, affordable energy connects to community wellbeing, culture and Country.

Students investigate how First Nations leadership is driving innovative, community-led clean energy solutions and how both First Nations land and sea knowledge and scientific approaches inform the design and development of renewable energy systems. They explore how local challenges shape energy systems and consider the social, environmental and economic benefits of community-owned projects.

Through this learning, students develop an understanding of how energy solutions can be place-based, culturally informed and future-focused. They are encouraged to think critically about what is possible in their own communities and how sustainable energy can support people, place and long-term wellbeing.
