Lesson Summary
Students explore what it means to be an ally and why allyship matters for LGBTQIA+ peoples and communities. Through authentic lived experiences, collaborative discussions, and scenario-based problem-solving, students investigate how allies can help others feel safe, respected, and included. Students apply their learning by developing practical responses to real-world situations and creating a shared Ally Toolkit to support inclusive actions within their school community.
Learning intentions
Students will:
understand what allyship is and how it can support LGBTQIA+ peoples and communities
develop practical strategies for acting as an ally in everyday situations.
Success criteria
Students can:
explain what an ally is and describe how allyship supports LGBTQIA+ peoples and communities
identify practical actions an ally can take in situations involving exclusion or unfair treatment
develop and communicate a respectful ally response using ideas from the Our Ally Toolkit.
