Lesson Summary
Students explore the diversity of families through the lived experience of a child from a rainbow family and discover that while families may look different, they all show love, care and belonging in their own ways. They investigate what makes families unique, identify the values they share and celebrate the many different families that make up their communities. Students conclude the lesson by creating a collaborative classroom display that promotes inclusion and celebrates the message that every family belongs.
Learning intentions
Students will:
explore the different ways families show love, care and belonging
recognise that families come in many different forms and all deserve kindness and respect.
Success criteria
Students can:
identify ways families show love and care for one another
recognise that families can be different while sharing many things in common
describe one way they can help every family feel welcomed and included.
