Lesson Summary
Students will explore how cultural and scientific knowledge are used to design clean energy projects in remote First Nations communities. They analyse a case study to learn how local and cultural knowledge, as well as weather and seasonal knowledge, inform a clean energy project in a remote First Nations community. Students create an annotated model of a clean energy technology.
Learning intentions
Students will:
- understand how First Nations' ecological knowledge informs renewable energy design
- explore the role of environmental observation in planning sustainable solutions
- recognise how combining cultural and scientific knowledge leads to innovation.
Success criteria
Students can:
- describe how seasonal and cultural knowledge influences renewable energy projects
- identify at least two ways Land and Sea Ranger programs contribute to energy planning
- communicate their ideas through a labelled model or diagram.
