This unit is designed for a flipped classroom, where students learn about climate change and Earth Hour by watching videos and completing activities in their own time. The unit includes activities such as mindfulness walks through nature, exploring the impacts of climate change on Australian places, investigating news articles about climate change, creating visual diaries of a future impacted by climate change, and assessing the suitability of energy resources for use in Australia. This unit aims to help students build their knowledge, attitudes and values towards climate change and Earth Hour, and meets selected Australian Curriculum outcomes for Years 7 and 8 in the subjects of English and Science.
Earth Hour is a WWF-Australia initiative, and is the world’s largest community-driven climate change campaign. At the centre of Earth Hour is switching off lights to show a commitment to taking action. Thousands of teachers use Earth Hour’s education program to enrich their curriculum and provide pathways for young people to create change in their world.
