Adaptation
Adaptation means changing behaviours, practices or ways of living to suit new conditions. For example, First Nations peoples adapted to environmental changes by finding new food sources when the land or climate shifted.
Climate change
Climate change refers to long-term shifts in weather patterns and temperatures. For example, rising sea levels and increased erosion in Quandamooka Country are effects of climate change that people must respond to.
First Nations peoples
First Nations peoples are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians who are the original inhabitants of Australia. For example, the Mardudhunera and Yindjibarndi people are First Nations groups connected to Murujuga, Western Australia.
Primary source
A primary source is a piece of evidence or record created at the time something happened. For example, a diary written by a First Nations elder or ancient rock art at Murujuga is a primary source that shows historical life and culture.
Secondary source
A secondary source is information created after an event happened, usually by someone who did not experience it firsthand. For example, a history textbook describing how First Nations peoples adapted to environmental changes is a secondary source.
