This course will help you navigate challenging classroom situations by focusing on emotional intelligence, connection with students, and stress management. Learn how to manage your own emotions and model healthy coping mechanisms when responding to student distress. Discover the causes of challenging behaviour and explore proactive strategies for teaching responsibility instead of relying on punitive measures.

The course covers key emotional intelligence attributes, including active listening, empathy, and self-awareness, and provides practical tools for stress management. You’ll also learn preventative strategies to create a positive classroom environment and develop personal response strategies and de-stressing toolkits.

You will learn:

  • The importance of emotional intelligence in behaviour management, emphasising attributes such as self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management
  • Effective communication techniques, including active listening and empathy
  • Methods to establish a culture of respect, clear behavioural expectations, and consistent reinforcement
  • To recognise the impact of stress on behaviour management and help develop of self-awareness and practical destressing techniques
  • Early intervention, relationship-building, and teaching stress management
  • Development of a toolkit for in-the-moment stress relief, incorporating items like stress balls and fidget toys.
