Course Summary
For students who struggle with literacy, all aspects of school become something to dread. When you can’t understand any written instructions, being at school is full of anxiety and does very little for self-esteem.
This micro PL gives you a range of playful ideas for use in primary schools with a focus on literacy; alongside the pictures will be provocations and reflections to help you continue to improve your practice. These ideas are there to think about how to make literacy fun and enjoyable - especially for students who struggle to build mastery of language.
You will learn:
- Strategies for engaging students in literacy
- Different methods for engaging with students
- A range of activities you can use in your class
- Ideas and ways to design and create playful literacy experiences that connect with your context and your students.
Course time:
About 30 to 45 minutes - perfect for after work or during a spare period. You will have ongoing access via your user dashboard.

Hayley Sommeling-Farrugia is an experienced Early Years Educator, Primary School Teacher, and Instructional Designer for Cool. Hayley is an expert at developing content that considers the educational journey from start to finish, as she knows first-hand the experiences, knowledge and challenges of the educators.
Daniel Donahoo's work is driven by play, technology and narrative. Daniel is the author books on children, family, media and technology “Idolising Children” and (co-author) “Adproofing Your Kids” and writes and blogs regularly on the topics of technology, children, education and families.
