Course summary

While there is no universally agreed upon definition for ‘gifted and talented students’ there is agreement that they have individual learning needs and the level of giftedness varies across, and within, learning areas. According to the Australian Curriculum website ‘up to 10% of students in a class are gifted and talented but gifted students do not always excel at school’. You will learn:

  • Australian Curriculum and ATSIL expectations regarding teaching gifted and talented students
  • Strategies to employ when teaching gifted and talented students, including how to support their active engagement in class learning and how to assess them to an appropriate standard
  • How to use what you know already to differentiate the learning in your classroom to engage your gifted and talented students, by using High Impact Teaching Strategies and variation in delivery and environment.
