Course summary
‘What I wished I knew about Leadership’, is a culmination of 20 years in education with 15 of these in school leadership. I have had many amazing leaders combined with leaders I have modelled the ‘me I don’t want to be’ off. In this learning series, I will focus on the fundamental elements of leadership I wished I had known before I dived in. Whether a teacher, teacher leader or school leader, we all find ourselves in situations where we are supporting or leading colleagues in a PLC, leading a team in an area of expertise, or leading the learning within your classroom. The tips and tricks can be easily transferred because we are all in the same business of educating people - young, old, big, small and everyone in between.
Video transcript
Have you ever wondered why you might lean on particular skills or attributes that we often refer to as strengths? Have you reflected on why these are your strengths? Do you know why some people are considered difficult or hard to lead? All of these dispositions are part of human nature, however, if we understand these particular defaults within ourselves, we have a great ability to connect, collaborate and empathise with our colleagues, those that lead us and those we lead.
You will learn:
- about the gap in how research discusses leadership development and evolution.
- the importance of having a strong and clear understanding of how ‘self’ influences our way of being
- how leadership of others can be influenced by others' personal beliefs and values, and how these cannot be changed without strong leadership and understanding.
