Creating Culturally Inclusive Communities with Together for Humanity

  • Creating Culturally Inclusive Communities with Together for Humanity

Australia’s cultural diversity is something to embrace, and these lessons will help you highlight its importance while sparking empathy and inclusion in your classroom. Created in partnership with Together for Humanity, these 6 engaging, Australian Curriculum-aligned lessons explore empathy, inclusion, identity and respectful representation in the media.

Resources to understand & embrace diversity

These resources, packed with real-world stories, student worksheets, creative activities and thoughtful reflection prompts, empower educators to foster belonging and inclusion in their classrooms.

Students will examine stereotypes, understand discrimination and reflect on social and emotional skills while learning about diverse communities, including First Nations Australians and recent migrants.

Explore identity, challenge stereotypes & build empathy

These lessons are designed to encourage your students to:

🫶 Practise empathy and take into consideration those who may feel excluded
🫶 Understand what discrimination is and how it can affect a person’s feelings, confidence and sense of belonging
🫶 Explore identity and culture, and how clothing plays a role in identity and belonging
🫶 Analyse and reflect on the assumptions we make about others and how these assumptions can impact our actions and the way people feel
🫶 Investigate how advertising shapes our identities, representation and how to promote a more inclusive Australia.

Together for Humanity is an inclusive, not-for-profit educational organisation that works with school communities to eliminate prejudice so all young people feel they belong.

Together for Humanity offers a range of student programs linked to the Australian Curriculum, Teacher Professional Learning and online learning for students and teachers.

Together for Humanity programs are supported by the Australian Government Department of Education through the Connected Youth and Communities initiative.
