Thought-starter: What does giving back to the community feel like?

1. Make sure you have your own copy of the criteria that your group developed in the La Trobe Aspire Generation – Consulting the Community lesson. Firstly, complete the evaluation of your group project as individuals. Take time and be honest with your judgment. After completing this, share your evaluation with your group members and they will do the same. Take turns working through each criteria and explaining why you each made the particular judgements.

Consider using a ‘Claim, Support, Question’ Visible Thinking routine to help structure your discussions. Remember to be honest but supportive in this process.

Question: What's left hanging? What isn't explained?

Collate your group assessments and try to work out an averaged assessment of your accomplishments and learning. This will help you in the next part of the lesson.

2. Your teacher will work with the class to decide how you will present your learning and share your experience with others. Ideas might include presenting to your peers at school, hosting a presentation night with parents and members of the community, or preparing a one page report to publish in the school newsletter or on the school website.

Refer back to everything you have collated as part of your research and planning, as well as the project planning tools, notes from the feedback and iteration of the idea (Consulting the Community lesson) and the assessment of your project your group has just made. Print and use this Presentation Planning Tool to help you collate and synthesise the information and prepare a presentation of your insights.

In groups, you will be asked to present to an audience the learning and accomplishments of your group project or action. Think about some questions that your audience might ask, or, come up with some that you can ask them!

Use this Planning Tool and remember to plan and rehearse your presentation carefully.

Listen carefully to other group presentations and celebrate their success as much as your own.

Reflection

Having now finished all the project development, delivery, reflection and assessment phases of this unit, take some time for some self-reflection and complete these reflection questions independently. Use the space provided for some reflective comments. You might like to revisit some of the journaling reflection you completed in earlier lessons.
