Lesson summary
This lesson gives students the space to think deeply about discrimination, what it looks like, how it feels and what they can do about it. They’ll watch short real-world stories, reflect on the impact of exclusion, and analyse images that show respectful and disrespectful behaviours. Through discussion and critical thinking, they’ll build a shared understanding of what inclusion really means. Overall, this lesson is about helping students challenge stereotypes, reflect on their choices and feel empowered to build more inclusive, respectful communities.
Learning intentions
Students will:
- understand what discrimination is and how it can affect a person’s feelings, confidence and sense of belonging
- listen to and reflect on real stories of discrimination and explore how they can include and support others in their own community.
Success criteria
Students can:
- describe how it feels to be excluded and explain why treating people fairly and kindly is important
- express their understanding through words, actions, and creativity that promotes kindness, respect and inclusion.
