Lesson summary
Students will explore the fundamental skill of jumping through the sports of the Commonwealth Games and conduct experiments to collect data on height, distance and speed. During a student-led training program, they will collect data to measure the leaps and bounds of their progress. This is a split lesson, with the ‘Tune In’ and ‘Find Out’ phases happening first. Year 2 Health and Physical Education
Students can:
- practise fundamental movement skills and apply them in a variety of movement situations (AC9HP2M01).
Year 2 Mathematics
Students can:
- measure and compare objects based on length, capacity and mass using appropriate uniform informal units and smaller units for accuracy when necessary (AC9M2M01)
- acquire data for categorical variables through surveys, observation, experiment and using digital tools; sort data into relevant categories and display data using lists and tables (AC9M2ST01).
Relevant parts of Year 2 Health and Physical Education achievement standards: Students apply fundamental movement skills in different movement situations and explain how they move with objects and in space.
Relevant parts of Year 2 Mathematics achievement standards: Students use a range of methods to collect, record, represent and interpret categorical data in response to questions. They use uniform informal units to measure and compare shapes and objects.
General capabilities: Critical and Creative Thinking, Literacy, Numeracy, Personal and Social Capability
