Daily Activity Timetable - Activity Instructions

Our time is precious. There are only 24 hours in the day, and nearly a third of that is spent sleeping! If we want to get important things done, we have to commit to spending time on them each day. Sometimes, to make time for what is important, we have to sacrifice time spent doing other things. Do you even know where you’re spending your time? Well it’s time to find out. Complete a timetable of your day, and look for time you could put to better use.

Part A: Collecting Data

Step 1.

Think about how you spend your time on an average day. Note down what you think you spend most time doing. How long do you think you spend on this activity during a whole week?

Step 2.

Record what you do throughout the day, from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed. You might like to fill the chart in every few hours or keep track of things as you go.

8.00 - 9.00

Step 3.

Repeat for every day of the week.

Step 4.

Now combine all your data for the week. Put each activity into a category below. For example: Riding your bike, playing chasey, and going to the park, would all be outside activities. How much time did you spend in each category? You can create your own categories if needed.

Step 5.

What did you spend the most time on over the week? Was it the same as what you thought it was in Step 1? Was it more or fewer hours? What do you think about this?

Taking It Further

Identify three goals you want to achieve and how you will make time to achieve them. Then go back and complete a daily activities sheet, only this time list what you want to spend your time doing. Start by putting in the time spent working on your goals, and other necessities (like brushing your teeth). Any time left is free time for you to enjoy how you wish!
