Lesson summary
Students will learn about Commonwealth Games opening and closing ceremonies and explore how and why the arts are important for people and communities. They will discuss key elements of Commonwealth Games ceremonies, such as colour, costume and sound, to develop their understanding of how different countries represent their culture and traditions through the arts, such as dance and physical movement.
Learning intentions
Students will:
- learn about the Commonwealth Games' opening and closing ceremonies
- explore the dances of the Commonwealth Games opening ceremonies.
Success criteria
Students can:
- describe how cultural sharing by different nations can be done through dance at ceremonies like the ones held at the Commonwealth Games
- identify how elements of dance hold meaning.
