Lesson summary

Students will use movement skills, collect and analyse data, and display data using technology by trying different throwing techniques in different situations. They will then collect, organise, and display data about the effectiveness of different techniques.

Learning intentions

Students will:

  • practise different throwing techniques in a variety of situations.

Success criteria

Students can:

  • execute different throwing techniques successfully
  • identify which technique should be used in a situation
  • use data representations to justify their choices.

Year 4 Mathematics

Students can:

  • conduct statistical investigations, collecting data through survey responses and other methods; record and display data using digital tools; interpret the data and communicate the results (AC9M4ST03).

Relevant parts of Year 4 Health and Physical Education achievement standards: Students apply fundamental movement skills and demonstrate movement concepts across a range of situations. They adapt movement strategies to enhance movement outcomes.

Relevant parts of Year 4 Mathematics achievement standards: Students use surveys and digital tools to generate categorical or discrete numerical data in statistical investigations and communicate their feelings in context.
