Lesson summary
Students start by exploring running, and different sports that involve running, before creating a plan to improve their own running. This is a split lesson, with the ‘Tune In’ and ‘Find Out’ phases happening first. Students will enact their plans over a period of time. Students apply their mathematical skills to record their performance as a class.

Foundation, Health and Physical Education
Students can:
- practise fundamental movement skills in minor game and play situations (AC9HPFM01).
Foundation, Mathematics
Students can:
- identify and compare attributes of objects and events, including length, capacity, mass and duration, using direct comparisons and communicating reasoning (AC9MFM01)
- collect, sort and compare data represented by objects and images in response to given investigative questions that relate to familiar situations (AC9MFST01).
Relevant parts of Foundation Health and Physical Education achievement standards: Students apply fundamental movement skills to manipulate objects and space in a range of movement situations. Students demonstrate personal and social skills to interact respectfully with others.
Relevant parts of Foundation Mathematics achievement standards: Students identify the attributes of mass, capacity, length and duration, and use direct strategies to compare objects and events. Students collect, sort and compare data in response to questions in familiar contexts.
General capabilities: Critical and Creative Thinking, Numeracy, Personal and Social Capability
