Lesson summary

Students will transfer movement strategies to different situations and collect and display data by learning about invasion games. They will try different strategies for these games and create a data display about the results.

Learning intentions

Students will:

  • explore tactics of invasion sports 
  • use data to measure their success.

Success criteria

Students can:

  • demonstrate and apply different tactics in invasion sports
  • reflect on the effectiveness of these tactics using data to support their interpretation.

Year 5 Health and Physical Education

Students can:

  • transfer familiar movement strategies to different movement situations (AC9HP6M02)
  • investigate how different movement concepts related to effort, space, time, objects and people can be applied to improve movement outcomes (AC9HP6M03).

Year 5 Mathematics

Students can:

  • plan and conduct statistical investigations by posing questions or identifying a problem and collecting relevant data; choose appropriate displays and interpret the data; communicate findings within the context of the investigation (AC9M5ST0).

Relevant parts of Year 5 Health and Physical Education achievement standards: Students refine and modify movement skills and apply movement concepts across a range of situations. They transfer movement strategies between situations and evaluate the impact on movement outcomes. 

Relevant parts of Year 5 Mathematics achievement standards: Students plan and conduct statistical investigations that collect nominal and ordinal categorical and discrete numerical data using digital tools. 

General capabilities: Critical and Creative Thinking, Digital Literacy, LiteracyNumeracyPersonal and Social Capability
