Lesson summary
In this lesson, students get hands-on with the personal and social skills that help build respectful relationships. Through guided discussion and collaborative activities, they will practise empathy, active listening and clear communication. Students will explore what inclusive and exclusive behaviours look and feel like, using the story ‘Why Bat Hangs Upside Down’. This story helps students reflect on their own actions and think about the choices they can make to build stronger and kinder communities.
Learning intentions
Students will:
- practise empathising with others who feel excluded
- learn how to respond with kindness and empathy, and identify ways to be an upstander.
Success criteria
Students can:
- create and share their own ideas, stories, or actions that show how to be inclusive and make others feel they belong
