This unit features lessons that use clips from Blue The Film to inspire student learning about coral reef health and ocean changes. Through design thinking, students identify innovative solutions to address coral reef damage, working through the ‘empathise’ and ‘define’ stages to clarify the problem. They investigate ocean warming and acidification, analysing their impact on marine ecosystems using a jigsaw classroom approach and creating scientific posters to explain these processes. A hands-on hexagonal thinking activity helps students visualise ecosystem connections, encouraging them to reflect on human impacts and explore ways to minimise harm to marine life.
Clips from the documentary are embedded throughout the lesson plans where required. If you would like to watch the full documentary, you can do so on ClickView or stream on iTunes.
