These resources are part of the Lord Howe Island Education Resources.

This Visual Arts unit for Years 5-8, Artist in Residence, has been designed to

  • introduce students to Australian landscape artist Joshua Yeldham and explore how artist residencies inform the creative process
  • develop students' understanding of how environment, mood and feelings can impact artistic expression
  • encourage creative exploration through nature-based painting experiences that help students follow their intuition and let go of perfectionism
  • teach students about artistic techniques including perspective, composition, colour, pattern and mark-making through landscape art
  • connect students with the natural environment of Lord Howe Island while creating their own nature-inspired artworks
  • explore how art can serve as a therapeutic tool for emotional expression and reflection
  • guide students in creating their own owl sculptures using natural materials, understanding how artists apply meaning to their work.

By engaging with Joshua Yeldham's artistic practice and the unique environment of Lord Howe Island, students will develop both artistic skills and a deeper connection to nature and creative expression.
