These resources are part of the Combatting Misinformation Education Resources, created in collaboration with Boundless Earth.

This Science unit for Years 5 & 6, Renewable Energy Investigators, has been designed to

  • empower students to become critical thinkers who can confidently identify facts, misinformation and disinformation about clean energy
  • explore renewable energy choices through interactive role-play, enabling students to assess the reliability, safety and suitability of different energy sources
  • highlight the importance of community voices, examining real-world energy debates such as the Gippsland wind farm case study to understand diverse perspectives
  • develop practical fact-checking strategies, guiding students to evaluate scientific claims and differentiate trustworthy information from myths
  • foster creative communication skills, allowing students to design engaging resources and social media prototypes to challenge misinformation in their communities.

By exploring energy debates and using creative and critical thinking, students will gain the tools to effectively fact-check claims, debunk myths and communicate evidence-based information to inspire informed decisions about renewable energy.
