Lesson summary
In this lesson students synthesise what they have learnt during the Who We Are: Brave New Clan unit and make a series of films about themselves in the style of the Who We Are: Brave New Clan series. Students will be guided to plan and produce a short film that tells the story of who they are.

Curriculum mapping
The films and lessons presented in Who We Are: Brave New Clan have been designed to align with the organising ideas of the Australian Curriculum’s cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures. Use of the film in a classroom setting will build teachers’ and students’ knowledge of, understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, contributions and ways of life.
Australian curriculum content descriptions:
Year 4 Media Arts:
- Use media technologies to create time and space through the manipulation of images, sounds and text to tell stories (ACAMAM059)
- Plan, create and present media artworks for specific purposes with awareness of responsible media practice (ACAMAM060)
Year 5 & 6 Media Arts:
- Develop skills with media technologies to shape space, time, movement and lighting within images, sounds and text (ACAMAM063)
- Plan, produce and present media artworks for specific audiences and purposes using responsible media practice (ACAMAM064)
Cross-curriculum priority: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures OI.1 to OI.9.
General capabilities: Intercultural Understanding, Ethical Understanding, Personal and Social Capability, Critical and Creative Thinking, Literacy.
Units of work: Who We Are: Brave New Clan – Country/Place, People, Culture.
Time required: 130+ mins.
Level of teacher scaffolding: Medium – oversee discussion, lead students in activities.
