Lesson summary
In this lesson, students will think critically about the origins of products they use. They will be shown a diagram of the processes involved in Faber-Castell pencil production and learn about how the company makes choices with a focus on sustainability. Students will consider ways to reduce waste in the classroom and create an artwork with inspiration from an illustrator who creatively incorporates pencil shavings in her artwork.

Time required:Â 60 mins.
Level of teacher scaffolding: Medium – show videos, facilitate discussion and oversee art activity.
Resources required
- Student Worksheets – one copy per student
- Print-out: The Cycle of the EcoPencil (A3 size, enough for one between two if possible)
- Device capable of presenting a video to the class
- A3 Paper, Colour Grip Pencils, Goldfaber Graphite Pencils, PVC-free erasers, Finepens, PVA glue and sharpeners
