These resources are part of the Big History Education Resources.

This Science, Maths and English unit for Years 3 - 6, Big History, has been designed to

  • introduce students to the scientific origin story of the universe through accessible explorations of the Big Bang, star formation and the evolution of planets and life
  • develop critical thinking skills by inviting students to act as cosmologists, archaeologists and claims testers, questioning evidence and conducting simple experiments
  • explore natural selection and evolution through engaging investigations into traits, beak shapes and adaptations that help species survive
  • trace the development of human civilisation, including the invention of symbolic language, the rise of agriculture and the impact of transport and communication technologies
  • foster creativity and communication by encouraging students to create comic strips, dioramas, written languages and their own planets
  • culminate in a collaborative design challenge where students plan and present their vision for a sustainable future city.

From stars to civilisations, this unit invites students on an epic journey across time, blending science, storytelling and problem-solving to help them see their place in the universe.
