Explore how access to energy shapes everyday life in this Year 6 Science and HASS unit. Developed in partnership with the First Nations Clean Energy Network, this unit invites students to investigate the challenges of energy insecurity in remote First Nations communities and how science and community leadership are working together to address them.
Students examine what energy insecurity means for households and communities, using data to understand its impact on wellbeing, cost of living and access to essential services. They also explore how solutions such as community-led microgrids are designed to provide reliable, affordable energy, and how these systems respond to local needs and conditions.
Through this learning, students build an understanding of how scientific knowledge can support real-world solutions and how advocacy can help create fairer and more sustainable energy systems. They are encouraged to consider how informed action can support stronger, more connected communities.
