This Year 5 & 8 HPE unit, Increasing Wellbeing through Compassionate Action, is designed to
- delve into the concept of compassionate giving, considering its benefits and challenges
- support students to deepen their empathy and critical thinking skills
- engage students in thought experiments and discussions exploring ethical dilemmas and societal values, resulting in the development of a shared moral code
- investigate effective charitable organisations and reflect on the importance of informed and impactful giving and the need to share this knowledge with the wider community
- explore how behaviours related to compassionate giving influence the health, safety, relationships, and overall wellbeing of both individuals and communities
- emphasise the positive impact of compassionate actions on both individuals and broader communities.
Detailed excerpts from The Life You Can Save by Professor Peter Singer are a key and unique element of these resources and help students understand the different perspectives around giving to charitable organisations.
