In this unit, children will explore the concepts of packaging, waste, and recycling in order to reduce the amount of packaging from their lunchboxes that ends up in landfill. Younger children will investigate different types of food packaging and learn how to properly dispose of them, while older children will group waste items according to various options and think about how waste materials can be reused before they go into the bin. Additionally, children will learn about the origins of paper and cardboard products and experiment with ways to reduce paper usage and recycle paper products.

The lessons in this unit have been developed in partnership with Planet Ark. Planet Ark was established in 1992 and has grown to become one of Australia's most respected and trusted environmental organisations.
