This HPE and Science unit is designed to teach Year 3 and 4 students about the difference between naturally occurring sugars and added sugars in foods, the impact of consuming too much sugar on our health, particularly our kidneys, and how to make healthy choices. The lessons cover topics such as recognising foods containing added sugars, the role of kidneys in filtering our blood, dental hygiene, hydration, mindfulness, and the differences between type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The unit includes hands-on activities, experiments, and quizzes to engage students and deepen their understanding of the effects of sugar on our bodies.
