This unit for Years 7 - 12, Composing for Film: Scoring The Final Quarter, is designed to
- explore the basics of film score composition, teaching students how to create mood and atmosphere through music
- promote discussion about the emotional and narrative weight carried by music in film and analyse its influence on viewers’ perceptions and emotions
- evaluate the effectiveness of film scores, use musical terminology and develop critical listening skills
- support the analysis of literary devices in song lyrics to improve understanding of their impact on meaning
- explore the songwriting process for film, focusing on lyrical composition and the integration of music with cinematic storytelling
- develop skills in the use of digital recording and editing software and techniques
- deepen students' appreciation for the art of film scoring and its power to convey complex themes like resilience, identity, and community.
