Lesson summary

Children investigate colour by looking at rainbows. Younger children will observe a rainbow created in their room. Older children are invited to paint or draw a rainbow of their own and then head out into the yard at their service to look for materials from nature that match the colours of their rainbow.

Activity Intention:

  • This activity is designed to help connect children to the wonders of the natural world through sensory and play-based learning.

  • Rainbows Images
  • Rainbow Drawing
  • Rainbow Drawing Template

Ages 0 to 2: 

  • Some white wall or poster-sized white paper stuck to the wall
  • Recycled CD
  • Sunlight or a torch
  • A4 paper (optional)

Ages 3 to 5:

  • Paper
  • A range of art tools such as Jumbo Colour Pencils, Connector Paint Box, Jumbo Wax Crayons, Playsafe Broad Tip Colour Markers and Jumbo Connector Pens.
  • Glue or sticky tape
