Meaningful Moments: Table Challenge

This lesson is designed to build students’ competencies in the following skills:

Australian Curriculum (v9.0) content description: 

Year 7 & 8 Design and Technology:

Select, justify and use suitable materials, components, tools, equipment, skills and processes to safely make designed solutions (AC9TDE8P03)

Relevant parts of Year 7 & 8 Design and Technology achievement standards: Students explain how the features of technologies impact on design decisions, and create designed solutions based on analysis of needs or opportunities. 

General capabilities: Critical and Creative Thinking, Personal and Social Capability

• A range of materials construct tables, but these shouldn't be expected table materials (i.e. flat wooden board and legs). Instead, provide a range of materials that will pose more of a challenge, such as cardboard, fabric, old pipes, rope, pool noodles etc 
• A range of weights, such as dumbbells
• Timer or stopwatch.

Level of teacher scaffolding: Medium - gather materials and oversee table construction challenge. Conduct the table strength tests and declare a winner!
