Lesson summary

In this short activity, students will undertake a nature-based mindfulness practice, exploring their connection to nature and allowing for present-moment focus. This lesson gives students an opportunity to connect with their five senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell and taste and is designed to connect students to natural alignment with a focus on awareness, posture, breathing, relaxation and balance, preparing them for effective engagement and focus in class. This activity has been designed to ‘punctuate’ the day. You can use it before, during or after your class.

Learning intentions:

Students will...

  • develop awareness and understanding of mindfulness as a method for nurturing their minds, recognising their current state, and making thoughtful decisions about engagement
  • explore the sensation of touch and deepen their awareness of bodily sensations, surroundings, and senses through mindful interaction with natural objects.
