Lesson Summary
In this lesson, students focus on threatened species – what it means for a species to be labelled threatened, how they become threatened and what people can do to assist. They begin by exploring a variety of animals of the world, then identify endangered species within the Australasian region. Students will then participate in a range of hands on rotation activities focusing on the fight to save the Greater Bilby.
Learning intentions
Students will:
- recognise the needs of living things, including air, water, food and shelter
- understand that there are many species in the world at risk of extinction
- understand that people can act to protect threatened species.
Success criteria
Students can:
- define what extinct, vulnerable and endangered means
- identify threatened Australian species
- identify factors that lead to animals becoming threatened
- explain that animals and plants are dependent on each other
- explain ways people can help to protect threatened species.
