Beyond the Bushfires - Conservation Efforts After the Australian Bushfires

PrimaryYear 3 - 6EnglishScienceThe ArtsEnvironmentalBiodiversityClimate ChangeSustainability

The Beyond the Bushfires series, developed in partnership with The Conversation, offers a set of lessons that integrate evidence-based research and real-world practice to teach students about the impact of bushfires on the Australian landscape, flora, and fauna. The series focuses on the conservation efforts of scientists who work to preserve species threatened by bushfires, including the creation of temporary habitats to house and breed these species. Through a range of activities, students learn about the structural and behavioural adaptations of animals that help them survive bushfires and the ways people can help animals affected by fires. The series covers topics such as plant adaptations, desert species, and the interconnectivity of species in food chains. The lessons align with the Australian curriculum and aim to foster critical and creative thinking and sustainability awareness among students.
