This unit is designed to help students explore key themes around sustainability through creativity. Students will identify different parts of the environment and the importance of each part. They will then use different colors, symbols, and art techniques to create drawings representing their chosen part of the environment. Students will also create a self-portrait that explains the environmental action they want to take. They will learn about the visual convention of color and experiment with complementary and analogous colors in their artwork. Students will explore how artists are inspired by nature and create watercolor drawings of their special place in nature. They will also observe and draw animals in the school yard.
