These resources are part of the Empathy in Action: Lessons Inspired by 'The Life You Can Save’ suite of resources, created in collaboration with The Life You Can Save.
This Year 10 English unit, Evaluating Charitable Giving through Texts, is designed to
- introduce students to how people are influenced to develop empathy and compassionate giving through different text types
- support students in understanding how to analyse and evaluate the use of language features to generate an impact
- engage young people in the topic through the evaluation of a range of text types including cartoons, videos and book excerpts
- explore moral and ethical positions for and against giving to charitable organisations
- enable students to explore and develop their own attitudes and beliefs towards charitable giving.
Detailed excerpts from The Life You Can Save by Professor Peter Singer are a key and unique element of these resources and help students understand the different perspectives around giving to charitable organisations.
