This unit engages Year 7 and 8 students in Earth Hour by delving into the complexities of climate change through dynamic and interactive lessons. Students will explore how climate change affects ecosystems and biodiversity in Australia and globally. They will analyse energy conservation techniques and environmental stewardship practices, discovering actionable steps they can take to impact their schools, homes, and communities positively. Through these in-depth activities, students will develop a deeper understanding of environmental issues and learn to take informed, proactive measures to protect the planet.
Earth Hour is a WWF-Australia initiative and the world’s largest community-driven climate change campaign. At its centre is switching off lights to show a commitment to action. Thousands of teachers use Earth Hour’s education program to enrich their curriculum and provide pathways for young people to create change in their world.
