These resources are part of the Empathy in Action: Lessons Inspired by 'The Life You Can Save’ suite of resources, created in collaboration with The Life You Can Save.
This unit for Years 9 & 10 HPE, The Influence of Human Nature on Respectful and Effective Giving, is designed to inspire and empower young people to help others build better lives by
- evaluating the impact of human nature on decision-making and on respectful and effective giving, with an emphasis on empathy and critical thinking
- considering factors that impact individual and collective actions towards societal issues
- investigating the emotional and ethical impacts of giving by looking at key factors including effectiveness, dignity and wellbeing
- encouraging students to justify and critique strategies to enhance the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others.
Detailed excerpts from The Life You Can Save by Professor Peter Singer are a key and unique element of these resources and help students understand the different perspectives around giving to charitable organisations.
