The unit focuses on educating students about waste management and environmental conservation through various activities and experiments. Students will start by tracking their own waste production, investigate the effects of ocean pollution and explore ways to preserve food using natural substances found in the kitchen. They will also learn about composting, waste decomposition, and develop a safety code for handling solid waste. The unit will culminate in a project where students will develop a plan to improve their classroom waste collection system. Throughout the unit, students will be encouraged to think critically about their own consumption habits and how they can reduce waste in their daily lives.
