These resources are part of the Clean Up Australia Education Resources, created in collaboration with Clean Up Australia.

This Early Learning unit, Connecting Children to Nature – Exploring Waste and Taking Action, aligns with EYLF Outcomes 2 and 4 and has been designed to

  • encourage children to think about waste and its impact by exploring the difference between human-made waste and natural materials
  • develop observational and journaling skills as children record waste in their local environment
  • promote positive environmental action, inspiring children to participate in a Clean Up event within their community
  • teach children about waste sorting, introducing them to the concept that different bins are used for different types of waste
  • foster deeper connections with nature through sensory exploration, outdoor play and engaging group activities.

Through sensory, hands-on learning and community involvement, children will discover the importance of caring for nature, understanding waste and becoming active participants in creating a cleaner environment.

These activities are ideal for participation in Schools Clean Up Day or for a Clean Up event at any time of the year.
