This unit focuses on building resilient communities through investigating natural hazards and promoting sustainability. Students develop ideas for a healthy and resilient community, design safety kits, evaluate hazard-minimizing products, and create systems for detecting, preventing, and protecting communities from natural hazards. They also explore the use of paper as a sustainable rebuilding material and research ways to landscape the built environment to avoid damage from natural disasters.
